The Lost Falcon Center Telemetry Web

Telemetry web is a simple idea some senior falconers put forward.

Basically telemetry web involves standing in your garden or where ever you are and have your telemetry receiver to hand and turning through a full 360 degrees on the given channel.

The advantage of telemetry web over the active search is that it covers a vast area in a short time, involves little time or effort on the searchers part.

If for example your Gos went missing in Coventry, with telemetry on, the first phone calls would go out to those within a mile of you, then two miles, three miles and so on, in ever increasing circles until your bird of prey has been located or all those falconers with telemetry on your channel have been exhausted.

Please use the contact form to sign up as a telemetry searcher, stating your town, first name, phone number, availability and telemetry channel.

The Telemetry web will only work with plenty of telemetry operators in all areas, one day you could find yourself needing the Telemetry web, please give some of your time helping other falconers when things do go wrong.

Top telemetry advice from a Top falconer.

Many people own a telemetry system but don't know how to use it to it's optimum performance.

Each time I'm going to fly the gos, I'll check the telemetry before attaching it to the hawk.

Points to observe -

1) Select correct channel on the receiver to match the transmitter.

2) Tune the receiver to obtain the best / strongest signal.

3) Ensure that the batteries have plenty of life left in them.

4) If you lose your hawk and need someone elses help to track - make sure you know the frequency / channel / tuning point to supply them with the information.

Far to many times you hear someone has lost a hawk and you ask what frequency is it on - basic reply "173", this means nothing without the channel and tuning point.

An incorrectly tuned transmitter will not function to any where it's true potential - this could prove the difference between a found hawk and a lost hawk.
